Oman Proposes Gulf-Backed Maritime Security Framework for the Strait of Hormuz

Oman has presented Iran with a comprehensive diplomatic framework backed by Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states to restore stability and safely manage commercial shipping through the vital Strait of Hormuz. The proposal includes a mechanism for collecting voluntary passage fees to finance maritime safety operations and de-escalate tensions following recent regional disruptions to international maritime trade routes. Omani diplomats are acting as key mediators to establish an agreed-upon protocol between Tehran, neighboring Arab states, and international powers, aiming to safeguard crucial oil shipments, restore freedom of navigation under international law, and prevent further economic shocks in global energy markets.
