Chosen from a competitive pool of 33 submissions across multiple Indian languages by a jury led by filmmaker P. Seshadri, the feature will represent the nation in the Best International Feature Film category. Set against the backdrop of rural Maharashtra, Gondhal unfolds over a single night during the traditional Gondhal—a sacred, night-long folk performance involving music, dance, and religious mythological storytelling. The psychological thriller explores a newlywed couple caught in a web of personal conflict, jealousy, and social pressures as long-simmering animosities ignite during the sacred ritual.
